Marketing and Communications Manager

Position Description:
Alta Energy is seeking a highly-motivated individual who can thrive in a dynamic, high growth, start-up environment. The Marketing Communications Manager will be responsible for the planning and implementation of Alta Energy’s marketing and communications activities with regards to product and corporate advertising, public relations, promotional programs, and general external communications. The successful candidate will exhibit strong inter-personal and communication skills and interface with others both within and outside of the company. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, independent problem solver and creative thinker with exceptional follow through. The MarCom Manager will contribute as a team member to the development and implementation of marketing strategies and budgets for the company. The position reports to the EVP/chief commercial officer.

Responsibilities include:
• Work with EVP/chief commercial officer and sales and marketing team to develop marketing plan and budget
• Organize and execute market research to inform marketing strategy, including the identification and classification of target markets
• Generate and deliver qualified sales leads through marketing activities
• Ensure consistency in messaging throughout all external communications
• Coordinate development of marketing and sales collateral materials including client case studies, sector brochures, stock presentations, videos, etc.
• Manage all aspects of trade show and conference participation
• Develop and maintain company website and web-related marketing activities, including outbound electronic marketing in coordination with inside sales
• Write and/or edit white papers, contributed articles, blog posts, and other company written materials
• Manage advertising and other promotional efforts
• Organize and maintain corporate identity guidelines
• Establish and maintain memberships in appropriate trade organizations
• Manage public relations activities
• Manage external vendors with respect to public relations, creative, production, etc.
• Work with inside sales to integrate marketing with CRM
• Support sales proposal development
• Supervise marketing associates

Skills required:
This Marketing Communications Manager position requires the following skills:

Sales Executive, California Public Schools Sector

Position Description:
Alta Energy is seeking a highly motivated individual who can thrive in a dynamic, high growth, start-up environment to spearhead the sales effort for Alta’s California Public Schools market initiative (CalEd). This is a very well defined niche in which Alta has a unique approach and competitive advantage with respect to solar applications common to public schools. The CalEd Sales Executive will establish relationships with public school districts throughout the state of California, engage with district personnel, district consultants, and Alta partners, and will drive sales of Alta’s unique offering. The successful candidate will exhibit strong inter-personal and communication skills, and will be a self-motivated, independent problem solver and creative thinker with exceptional follow through. The position reports to the EVP/chief commercial officer.

Responsibilities include:
• Close sales with public school districts for the installation of solar power systems on public school campuses in California
• Develop every potential school district client to be a strong reference
• Work with inside sales and marketing team to implement CalEd targeted marketing activities
• Develop and nurture a pipeline of new opportunities to work with school districts
• Work with operations and analytics staff to collect and evaluate data related to potential project opportunities
• Create and deliver presentations and proposals for potential school district clients.
• Participate in organizations and events focused on energy in California public schools
• Help establish reputation for Alta as a domain expert for solar in public schools applications Identify and qualify prospective clients
• Maintain relationships throughout the sales and implementation cycle
• Provide input to others on the team regarding competitive offerings, product, regional opportunities, channel and other related sales issues
• Support the collection and analysis of market trends and competitive intelligence
• Periodic meetings with Alta staff at company headquarters in San Mateo, CA

Skills required:
The CalEd Sales Executive position requires the following skills:
• Moderate proficiency in energy-related topics including electricity rates, solar power systems, and power purchase agreements.
• Ability to sell in a consultative sales environment
• Strong contract negotiation and sales closing skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work in a self-directed manner
• Mastery of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Education & Experience Level:
BA or BS degree in a business or engineering field, plus 5 years minimum experience in consultative/solution sales. Direct experience working in public sector solar energy sales field strongly preferred. Familiarity with school district procurement processes and the Division of the State Architect preferred.

Office Location:
This position can be based anywhere in the state of California. Travel to San Mateo will be necessary periodically. Travel to school districts throughout the state will be required on a regular basis.

Compensation :
Salary range for this position includes a base salary of $70k to $90k, depending on experience, and a variable compensation with an annual on-target earning of an additional $100k. Benefits include health care, paid vacation, and eligibility to participate in the company’s stock option plan.

Sales Executive, Agriculture Sector

Position Description
The California Agriculture (“CalAg”) Account Executive position represents a unique opportunity to positively impact the way California agricultural enterprises buy and use energy; transitioning from more expensive fossil fuels delivered over the electrical grid, to clean, less expensive renewable energy generated mostly onsite for the benefit of California’s farmers. The CalAg Account Executive will also have the opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of Alta Energy’s CalAg business.

As CalAg Account Executive, you will be responsible for generating new, strategically important ag clients, such as growers, shippers, processors, dairies, and select landowners. You will also maintain relationships with existing clients, and help develop the program. The emphasis of business development activities will be on selling renewable energy programs rather than single projects. In this way, AltaE is able to provide clients with a holistic view of renewable energy opportunities across their operations, in any geography nationwide, and determine what makes the most sense for their needs, and then execute deployments in various sites meeting these criteria.

The position requires effective communication with a variety of stakeholders, including facilities and energy managers, owner-operators, senior executives, and ag associations. The CalAg Account Executive will represent a variety of renewable energy solutions designed for growing operations, processing facilities, cold storage warehouses, greenhouses, and other facilities. The position does not require a technical or engineering background, but will require familiarity with solutions and services offered; the AltaE back-0ffice will support the CalAg Account Executive will technical analyses, research, client prospecting, marketing and the like.

The CalAg Account Executive reports to the EVP & Chief Commercial Officer, and will work closely with the Vice President of Business Development.

Other responsibilities include:
• Proactively identify and contact client prospects
• Develop and maintain pipeline of new client opportunities while closing prospects
• Create and deliver client presentations; effectively communicate value of AltaE solutions while also listening and understanding clients’ needs
• Work with internal sales support staff and analytics team members to deliver effective client presentations and identify client opportunities
• Identify business needs of clients and create solutions with senior executive decision makers
• Build relationships with various ag associations and referral sources, and coordinate with senior executives ways to further enhance company’s position within such organizations (e.g., speaking opportunities, events to attend, ideas for webinars, etc)
• Develop thorough understanding of each account’s market and business
• Attend and participate in tradeshows and related industry events
• Quarterly meetings in San Mateo HQ office

Qualifications
• 3 to 5 years of experience working in California agriculture
• Bachelors degree or equivalent
• Prefer candidate with general knowledge of California ag sector or sub-markets (e.g., row crops or almonds or dairy, etc.) and related industry contacts
• Basic financial literacy; basic understanding of financial returns, present value, paybacks, cash flow analysis
• Business-to-business sales, finance or operations experience preferred
• Preferred, but not required, basic understanding of renewable energy
• High energy, outgoing and self-starter
• Proficiency with Microsoft Power Point, Word and Excel
• Preferred, but not necessary, experience using Salesforce

Compensation
• TBD; will include base salary, commissions, medical insurance and participation in the Company’s incentive stock option plan

Project Management & Assessment Associate

Company Overview:
Alta Energy is an analytics and procurement company that enables commercial and property owners to make clear, rational decisions about when, where and how to deploy renewable energy. The Company is currently hiring enterprising individuals to assist with Alta Energy’s rapid growth. Ideal candidates should have direct experience in developing and managing renewable energy systems for commercial and industrial clients.

Position Description
The Project Management & Assessment Associate will provide analytical support for all functions of the Project Management & Assessment Group, including electricity rate and usage analysis, PV System design, energy storage design, renewable energy incentive and utility policy tracking, property portfolio analysis, project qualification, economic modeling, and proposal solicitation. Analyst may also be called on to evaluate potential partnerships and new business opportunities. The particular focus of this position will be financial modeling and cash flow analysis of proposed solar and other renewable energy projects. In addition, Associate will work on a wide variety of projects and tasks in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. In order to be successful, the Associate will need to have or quickly develop a deep understanding of various aspects of the renewable energy ecosystem as it relates to Alta Energy’s partners and clients. This position is critical to supporting the Company’s continued success.

Responsibilities include:
• Thorough comprehension of dynamic renewable energy incentives and distributed generation policies,
• Research and analysis of utility rate structures and client electricity usage/costs,
• PV System Design
• Maintaining, improving, and expanding Alta’s financial modeling capabilities,
• Utilizing Alta Energy’s proprietary databases and financial models to evaluate potential projects,
• Supporting administration and evaluation of deployment management services,
• Concise and compelling communication with a variety of stakeholders regarding project feasibility and expected financial returns, including considering of various ownership structures and financing scenarios.

Skills Required:
Critical Thinking, Data Analysis, Excel (or other analytical tools), Helioscope. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are required. Candidate must also be a team player, organized problem solver and an independent self-starter with excellent follow through.

Education Level: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics or other quantitative field, and a minimum of two years’ work experience (can include internships), preferably in renewable energy.

Hours: 40 hours per week/Monday-Friday at Alta Energy’s San Mateo office.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Project Development Associate

Company Overview:

Position Description
The Project Development Associate will be responsible for assessing the feasibility of proposed projects during pre-sales phases of engagements with clients and overseeing the deployment of those projects that move forward. Also critical will be his/her role in managing projects that AltaE develops directly for its clients, from initial project assessment to completion and commencement of operation.

Responsibilities are as follows and are as directed by the VP of Operations:
• Provide guidance in the initial assessment of projects by working closely with the Project Management and Assessment team.
• Help to identify and analyze alternatives for proposed projects.
• Guide the sales and Project Management & Assessment team on costing and schedule estimations of proposed projects.
• Perform on-site visits and inspection of proposed client facilities for detailed assessment of project feasibility and alternatives.
• Develop detailed project costing and schedules for contracted projects.
• Assist in managing vendors in development projects

Skills required:
Thorough knowledge of renewable/solar energy development process and understanding of system designs. Also required is a strong understanding of utility tariff structures and implications on project economics. Fluency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint required. Must exhibit strong inter-personal, communication and relationship development skills. The ideal candidate should be a problem solver and independent thinker with good follow through.

Education level: BA or BS degree, plus 1-2 year minimum work experience in C&I renewable energy design and/or development position.
